What's it like to study in the Netherlands?

Ruaridh from Scotland, is a philosophy student at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

  • The university is spread throughout the city, so it was a bit of a mission to hunt down all of the different buildings.
  • My own housing is amazing, right in the centre of the city, clean, nice and friendly.
  • There are plenty of computer labs around, although the opening hours could be longer. The internet access at home makes a huge difference though.
  • I also found Amsterdam to be a really cool city. It has lived up to all my expectations. For a capital city it has a very small village feel to it and there is a great deal to see and do.

Amsterdam is a great place to be a student, there is always something going on. I have been to most of the museums in the city now. The cinemas are great. They don’t dub the films and Bagels and Beans is a fantastic place to have lunch!
