- The University of Barcelona (UB) was founded in 1450 with the establishment of the Estudi General of Barcelona, creating chairs of Theology, Canon and Civil Law, Medicine, Philosophy and Arts.
- It was originally built in Naples but was forced to move to Cervera in 1717, and eventually returned to Barcelona in 1842.
- There are two official language spoken in Barcelona: Catalan and Spanish. Both languages are mainly used in the campuses as well. UB offers free Catalan courses and Spanish courses for low price.
- UB today is a research-intensive university with two campuses of international excellence- i.e. the HUBc health campus and the BKC knowledge campus. During 2011 and 2012, a total of 9,497 international students enrolled in degree programmes and international exchange programmes.
