International Students in the UK
Mai has come over to the UK from Vietnam. She studies Events Management at the University of Huddersfield. Mai hopes that gaining experience in this field in Europe will give her an advantage when she returns to Vietnam.
Why did you choose to study in the UK?
Because the UK has a rich and diverse culture. Plus the educational system is of worldwide renown.
How did you find the application process?
Straightforward and easy; however it was quite expensive.
Did you consider any other countries?
The US and Australia.
Was it easy to find useful information about the UK?
Yes it was easy to find out about the UK and specific universities through The Times, education agencies and student societies on social media sites.
How do the fees compare to your home country?
Much higher but with a decent part-time job I can just about manage my personal expenses. The tuition fees are another story.
How are you finding the experience of living and studying in the UK?
The UK has a safe and peaceful environment, with friendly and helpful people. I enjoy the fact that there is evidence of the UK's history but that it still feels like a modern, up-to-date country.
Anything you’re finding difficult?
The job market is tough in the UK at the moment. I'm finding it difficult to find a job I can go into straight after graduating.
What do you plan to do after your course?
Try to get a good job somewhere in Europe or another developed country to gain more valuable experience before returning to my home country.
Do you feel that studying in the UK will help you to achieve your ambitions?
Yes, because it has not only helped me improve my knowledge, but also my vision and skills.
