History

• The University of Toronto (known locally as UToronto and U of T) is a publicly funded research university founded in 1827 by Royal Charter.
• It has a collegiate system and places emphasis on a research-intensive liberal arts education. 
• Many important scientific discoveries originated at UToronto, including stem cell research and the electron microscope.
• The University has the largest academic library system in Canada.
