History

  • Columbia University in the City of New York is a private research university.
  • It was established in 1754 by British Royal Charter and known as King's College, thus making it the oldest higher education institution in New York and the fifth oldest in the United States.

  • Fifteen presidential candidates and nine Supreme Court justices number amongst Columbia graduates.
  • Columbia is also well represented in the arts with 92 Pulitzer prize winners and many famous performers and directors having attended the University, including David O.
