History

  • University of California, San Diego (UCSD) is a state-funded research university, and was officially established as a graduate institution for the STEM subjects in 1960. 
  • It now has a campus of over 1,100 acres in La Jolla, coastal California.
  • The campus was originally the site of a military training ground and marine research station. Its development was inspired by Oxbridge.
  • UCSD has six undergraduate residential colleges, five academic divisions, and five graduate and professional schools.
