What Do International Students Study?

English Language Requirements

The minimum entrance requirements for undergraduate students are:

  • IELTS 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in reading and writing, and no individual score lower than 5.5;
  • OR Pearsons Test of English Academic 59, including a minimum of 59 in reading and writing, and no individual score lower than 55;
  • OR Trinty College London Integrated Skills in English pass at ISEIII or above;
  • OR TOEFL overall 75, reading 18, writing 17;
  • OR GCSE, Grade C.

For postgraduate students, the minimum entrance requirements are:

  • IELTS 6.5 including 6.0 in reading and writing;
  • OR Pearsons Test of English Academic 58 including a minimum of 51 in reading and writing;
  • OR Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English pass at ISEIV or above.

The IELTS and Pearsons examinations, with the scores as indicated, are acceptable for direct entry if taken no more than two years prior to enrolment.

Bursaries and Scholarships

International Undergraduate Excellence Bursary 

  • Open to Undergraduate offer holders.
  • This bursary is for £500
  • Criteria for selection: students who were outstanding scholars during their pre-degree study.
  • Award decisions will be made automatically upon receipt of application to study.

Undergraduate International Foundation Scholarship* 

  • Available for all students who have studied in a faith based school in Hong Kong or Malaysia.
  • Worth 50% off 1 years tuition spread across the three years of study.
  • This equates to:
  • £1,000 scholarship year one
  • £1,500 scholarship year two
  • £2,900 scholarship year three

This amounts to £27,000 Tuition fees for the fixed 3 years of study. *Undergraduate international fees to be fixed for the three years of study only.

Undergraduate Electronic Engineering Scholarship

  • Available for all International students who apply for the Undergraduate Electronic Engineering course only.
  • Worth 50% fees for one year spead across 3 years of study only.
  • Breakdown of costs is the same as the Undergraduate International Foundation Scholarship.
  • Undergraduate International Fees are fixed for the three years of study only.

Early Payment Discount (Undergraduate applicants only)*

  • If you pay your tuition fees before the stated dates, you will receive an early payment discount. This gives you a substantial discount from your fees.
  • For September 2016 intake:
  • £1,000 discount if you pay your full tuition fees before 1st September 2016
  • Valid for students on full Bachelors but not for former Liverpool Hope University students.
  • *Only given to Undergraduate students who make the early payment and are either paying full fees or only in receipt of the Undergraduate Excellence Bursary (£500).

Postgraduate International Excellence Bursary

  • Open to Postgraduate Taught (Masters) offer holders.
  • This bursary is for £2600
  • Criteria for selection: those students who have received equivalent to UK 2:1 or above in their undergraduate degree as recognised by Liverpool Hope University.
  • Unlimited awards. Award decisions will be made automatically upon receipt of application to study.

International University Partnership Bursary

  • Open to Postgraduate Taught (Masters) offer holders.
  • Consists of £500 discount on university accommodation.
  • Available to students who have studied at a Liverpool Hope University partner institution. (For a list of partner institutions please contact the International Unit.)
  • This bursary is only available on full tuition fees paid before 1st September for September intake or 1st December for January intake. An Early Bird Discount may also be awarded.
  • Unlimited awards. Award decisions will be made automatically upon receipt of application to study.

International Postgraduate Scholarship

  • Open to Postgraduate Taught (Masters) offer holders.
  • Criteria for selection: applicants with high academics and demonstrable social and community involvement.
  • Worth 50% of course fees.
  • Five International Postgraduate Scholarships available annually.
  • Application form must be submitted and selection is by university committee.

Music Scholarships

  • Nine fully-funded music scholarship opportunities, which together are worth more than £40,000.

Pre-Arrival and Welcome

  • Liverpool Hope University sends pre-departure information for students to read before they leave home.
  • Students have the option of being met at the airport and escorted to the university.
  • Students are given a welcome pack on arrival containing campus maps and local information.
  • The International Unit hold a welcome meeting and provides an orientation programme, including library induction, campus and city tours and a programme of trips and events.

Accommodation for International Students

  • All international students (except for International Exchange students) are guaranteed a room in halls subject to an early application (by June for September starts and by November for January starts), and after that offers are subject to availability.
  • International undergraduate students can apply for any halls on any campus. Students may apply for a room move after arrival if they wish to live in a different flat or campus.
  • All university accommodation is self-catered; there are also good restaurants and cafes on the main teaching campus, as well as a Convenience Store and Varsity Store.
  • Unlimited Wi-Fi is included in the accommodation charge.
  • Undergraduate halls are on-site at Hope Park and at the Creative Campus. Other students living at Aigburth Park (accommodation only campus) have a fifteen minute free university shuttle-bus ride to Hope Park or the Creative Campus.
  • Students have their room for the entire academic year, only moving out at the start of the summer vacation.
  • Minimum accommodation cost is £3,132 for a 36-week contract (£87 per week/£1,044 per term) with shared bathrooms.
  • The maximum accommodation cost is £4,428 for a 36-week contract (£123 per week/£1,476 per term) with a private bathroom.

Organisations for International Students

  • The Students’ Union has a number of sports, academic and social organisations for all students. 
  • The International Unit has an events programme and students are supported in halls by the Residential Life Team who hold regular cultural and social events.
  • International students are represented by an elected student in the SU and by a nominated student at the International Focus Group.
  • There are a number of faculty-based organisations, for example, the Politics and History Society, and the Geography Society.
  • There are a number of social media sites to join, including the Liverpool Hope International Buddies Facebook page, which students can join pre-arrival.
