Open days at Leeds Arts University

Leeds Arts University is one of only a few specialist arts universities in the UK and the only one in the North of England. It has a rich history dating back to 1846 when it was founded as the Leeds School of Art.

Students enjoy a small, close-knit community in a creative atmosphere developing their craft as an artist, designer, musician, writer or filmmaker. The university has produced many notable alumni, including artists Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore.

Leeds Arts University was awarded a silver rating in the recent government's new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

Facilities

Leeds Arts University has invested heavily in facilities opening a £22m state of the art building expansion at Blenheim Walk in 2019. Specialist resources include workshops, studios and Apple Mac suites equipped to industry standards, run by highly skilled staff who contribute significantly to teaching. Students can also borrow specialist photography and film-making equipment relevant to their course with open working areas to encourage collaboration.

Students have access to two specialist arts libraries including specialist collections of artists' books, photo books, illustrative books and graphic novels.

Why go to an open day?

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.

Where is it located?

The campus is a short ten-minute walk from the city centre and is also easily reached by public transport. There is no accommodation on campus itself, but most first-year students live in student housing managed by private providers nearby.

A multicultural identity, a thriving arts scene and a rich array of music, food and sport are what you can expect living in Leeds. It has developed a prominent student culture over the years. This, alongside its affordable reputation, is why over 70,000 students call Leeds home.
