Why go to an open day?
When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.
Where is it located?
There are three campuses that make up the University of Essex located in Colchester, Southend and Loughton. The Colchester campus is the largest of the three. The Southend campus is in Southend-on-Sea and the Loughton campus is in Epping Forest, home to the Institute for Social and Economic Research.
Colchester has a small friendly student community. It is known for its Roman history with the Roman wall and Colchester Castle being popular attractions. There are restaurants, art galleries, theatres and an array of bars and nightclubs in the city.
