Open days at University of Exeter

The University of Exeter is a Russell Group member and thus a research-intensive institution. Exeter's academic courses are taught or supervised by academics and practitioners who are leaders in their field.

The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses and is particularly well known for its programmes in history, classics, geology, accounting and finance, psychology and business and management studies.

The university has a strong focus on sustainability and has been awarded the Green Flag Award for its campuses. It also has a number of climate and environment experts who are deployed to help businesses make greener choices.

Facilities

The main libraries at Streatham and Penryn open 24/7 all year and during term time respectively and St Luke's campus opens 24/7 by swipe card. Libraries house extensive special collections including the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum, and Charles Woolf collection.

The Northcott Theatre, Exeter's flagship professional theatre, is situated right in the centre of Streatham Campus. In Penryn, the Academy of Music and Theatre Arts (AMATA) hosts year-round performances from all over the world.

Why go to an open day?

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.

Where is it located?

Exeter University has two hubs, one in central Exeter and one in Penryn near Falmouth in Cornwall. The Exeter base has two campuses, Streatham and St Luke's with a good bus service to both and various train stations dotted around the city. The Penryn campus can be reached via train, bus or car.

Exeter is a small laidback and friendly city with ancient landmarks and modern amenities. There are various bars and clubs in the centre as well as shops, cinemas and theatres. The historic Exeter Quay is a lovely place to hang out and Magdalen Road in the St Leonards area of the city is known for its independent shops and cafes. Plymouth and Bristol are both about an hour away by train.
