Open days at University of Lancashire
The University of Lancashire is a leading modern university with roots stretching back to 1828. Set in the heart of the energetic and friendly city of Preston in the north-west of England, the University also has campuses in Burnley, Westlakes Cumbria and Cyprus, as well as 120 international partnerships.
With a student community from more than 100 countries, the university has a proud history of enabling people from all walks of life to reach their full academic potential.
Home to the only School of Veterinary Medicine in Lancashire, it's also the top uni in the north of England for producing start-up businesses.
The University of Lancashire was awarded the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Silver Award in 2023.
Facilities
There’s no better way to prepare for the workplace than to learn in the same kind of environment. From cutting-edge clinical skills laboratories to moot court rooms, the superb, industry-level facilities help students get ready to step straight into a career.
At all campuses, the sports membership allows students to access some amazing facilities, classes and activities. In Preston, you'll find the four-floor Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre on campus and the Sports Arena just a short shuttle-ride away. This has an international-standard athletics track, cycle track and all-weather football and hockey pitches. Students at Burnley and Westlakes also have access to fantastic local facilities.
At the main Preston Campus is the university’s award-winning Student Centre. As well a place to get together with friends or relax on the rooftop terrace, it’s also the first stop for expert advice and guidance. There’s an information point for quick questions, but the Students’ Union also has its own advice centre offering independent, impartial support for any aspect of student life.
Why go to an open day?
When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too.
You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.
Where is it located?
The University of Lancashire’s main campus is in the city of Preston. Home to around 23,000 students, it can be easily reached by bus, train or car. There are also campuses in Burnley and Westlakes, as well as an overseas site in Larnaka, Cyprus and a hub in London.
Preston is a medium-sized city with a huge personality. It's a lively, culturally diverse and friendly affordable place for students with plenty of activities and events.
