Open days at Keele University

Keele University was established in 1949 by the former Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University.

With a history of interdisciplinary teaching and learning, many courses allow you to tailor your programme to your interests through core and elective modules.

The university is also known for its world-class research in areas such as health, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Keele was awarded a gold rating in the recent Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

Facilities

The 600-acre campus is one of the biggest in the UK and has a wide range of facilities on site. Union Square at the centre of the campus is where you'll find eateries, cafes, shops, library, GP surgery, places of worship and the Students' Union.

The Sport Centre has a wide range of activities to get involved with including fitness classes, multi-use 3G training pitch, outdoor basketball and netball courts, beach volleyball, outdoor tennis courts, Astro Turf, and cricket pitch.

Keele's Student Union runs events throughout the year and is consistently ranked highly in the NUS Best Bar None awards. Stormzy, Ed Sheeran and Snoop Dogg have also all played gigs on campus, organised by the SU.

Why go to an open day?

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.

Where is it located?

Keele University is made up of one large campus in the Staffordshire countryside. There are regular buses between the campus and Hanley via Newcastle under Lyme and Stoke-on-Trent. There are also buses from Keele. The nearest train station is at Stoke-on-Trent.

If you decide to look around the surrounding area, Newcastle-under-Lyme is often popular with students living off campus. The town has a variety of bars, cafes, supermarkets, and entertainment venues, including a cinema and theatre.
