Open days at University of Leicester

The university was first established in 1921, gaining university status in 1957. It is known for its world class research and is home to 10 schools, including the School of Business, School of Arts, Leicester Law School, and Museum Studies.   

The University of Leicester is renowned for its discoveries and advancements in genetics, including the invention of genetic fingerprinting. It is also known for partially funding the discovery and DNA identification of the remains of King Richard III in Leicester.   

Facilities  

The university has two state-of-the-art sports centres that are open to both students and the community. These centres are equipped with modern gym equipment and offer a variety of fitness classes. The university also has a range of sports fields and courts for outdoor activities. 

The David Wilson Library is open every day and for 24 hours a day during term time. 

With its own cafe, the library is also a great spot to read, study or take time out. 

Why go to an open day?  

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.  

Where is it located? 

The University of Leicester has one main campus about a mile south of the city centre.   

It's a straightforward walk from the centre or you can take a bus.  

Culturally diverse, the city hosts the largest Diwali celebration outside of India. Leicester has a vibrant arts scene, great sporting heritage and fantastic food with many great restaurants and cafes offering a variety of cuisines. Centrally located, it's easy to get anywhere from Leicester. It's also a very affordable student destination.  

Rankings 

The University of Leicester is a solid performer in our UK university league table, securing a spot in the top 50 for the last five years. It recently scored particularly well on academic service spend and research quality.
