Open days at Anglia Ruskin University
The Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) was named after art critic, patron and philanthropist, John Ruskin who opened Cambridge School of Art in 1858. The art school grew to become ARU.
The university is known for promoting an entrepreneurial spirit among students and is a former UK Entrepreneurial University of the Year. The university aims to be a place where collaboration, research and scholarly activity informs everything it does. Many of their courses are recognised by industry and a substantial number are professionally accredited, making their students career ready.
ARU offer degrees in over 100 academic fields and received the Queen's Anniversary Prize for their world-leading music therapy work in November 2021.
Facilities
The university has its own art gallery called The Ruskin Gallery where admission is free. The gallery is surrounded by fine art, illustration, design, and media studios and campus libraries are open 24 hours, four days a week.
Many of the university facilities, activities and events are open to the wider community.
Why go to an open day?
When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.
Where is it located?
Anglia Ruskin has three main sites. The Cambridge campus is in the city and easily reached by public transport. The Chelmsford campus is in the University and Innovation Quarter of the city and well-connected by train and bus. The Peterborough site is in the city and can be reached by bus or train.
Cambridge is one of the main cities in the East of England and well known for its history, architecture, and culture. More recently it's become a bit of a tech hub, dubbed Silicon Fen for the number of science and technology companies and startups gravitating here.
With great connections to London and good links to other areas in the region like Norwich and Peterborough, Cambridge could be a great place to base yourself.
