Open days at Solent University (Southampton)

Solent University is a public university based in Southampton. It has approx. 10,500 students and offers more than 200 qualifications from HNDs to PhDs. It has a diverse student community, with over 100 different nationalities represented on campus.  

Solent's top areas of research and expertise are the creative and cultural industries, maritime and the environment, law and business, and sport and health.  

The university aims to provide students with opportunities to develop their professional and career skills, alongside practical real-world experience and has been awarded three gold ratings in the new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).   

Facilities  

The university has an award-winning library open 24/7 which provides resources, services, and expertise to support the university's students and staff in learning, research, and teaching. Solent University also offers a range of sports facilities and activities through its Solent Sport programme.  

Why go to an open day?  

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.  

Where is it located?  

Solent has one main campus in Southampton. The university is a short 15 to 20-minute walk from both the central train station and the central coach station, which provide regular services into the city.  

Southampton is a port city on the south coast of England. It's known for its maritime tradition and famous for being the place the Titanic left from. It's a lively and friendly place to study with a growing cultural scene. It was shortlisted as the UK City of Culture for 2025. The city has a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and bars that cater to all tastes and budgets. It also has a vibrant nightlife, with many clubs and music venues that host live music and DJ sets.
