Open days at University of Winchester

The University of Winchester offers students a small, friendly and supportive community that has been praised in the past for its small class sizes supportive lecturers and excellent facilities. It offers a range of courses across different disciplines including arts, humanities, social sciences and education.  

The University has a strong focus on sustainability and social justice and is committed to making a positive impact on society.  

The University of Winchester was recently awarded a silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).  

Facilities  

The university boosts modern facilities such as teaching rooms, an art gallery and libraries. There are green spaces, sports resources, launderettes, a packaging-free shop, performance spaces and course-specific facilities including clinical practice rooms and labs. 

Specific sports amenities include a gym with state-of-the-art fitness equipment at The King Alfred Quarter. The Winchester Sports Stadium is situated about a mile away from the campus at Bar End and is home to a floodlit athletics track and Tiger Turf All-Weather Pitch, which houses three 5-a-side football pitches, or a full-size football or hockey pitch.  

Why go to an open day?  

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.  

Where is it located?  

The University of Winchester has four campuses: King Alfred Quarter, West Downs Quarter, Medecroft Quarter, and Bar End Quarter. These are all found in Winchester and within walking distance of Winchester city centre. You can travel to the university by train, bus or car.  

Winchester is the historic capital of England. Its intriguing past and modern character provide an inspiring backdrop to a wide range of places to eat, drink and socialise.  

All found just an hour from London and bordering the South Downs national park.
