8. You can find out about safety and happiness
For many, university will represent the first extended period away from home - not everyone acclimatises so well and some students need additional help and support. Use open days to find out the level of support you're likely to get in case of personal issues whilst at university. Visit the welfare department and see exactly what services are on offer.
What to look for:
- Does the support team seem friendly, helpful, approachable?
- What services do they offer?
- Are they up-to-date on welfare issues students face today?
