LSE takes the crown as Complete University Guide’s best university in London
London School of Economics has taken the crown as the Complete University Guide’s best higher education institution in London
London has done fantastically well in our 2023 rankings with notable universities climbing the ranking from previous years. These include Queen Mary University of London which rose by 6 places, University of the Arts London which rose by five places and City, University of London which rose by 14 paces this year.
In the overall league tables, the London School of Economics held its position in 3rd place for another year sitting just below the University of Cambridge. Naturally, within the region LSE performed well in nearly all metrics in the league tables with exceptional scores in Facilities Spend, Research Quality and Completions.
Pockets of excellence
Every year the we release UK university and subject league tables to support prospective students in making informed decisions about their future. The regional league tables help people find the right university for them in their area and are also informative for local employers to know what skills people are coming to the area to develop.
Within the London you will find pockets of subject-level excellence. Despite the following universities performing below 40th in the overall table, there are some examples of high-quality subject rankings reinforcing the importance of looking below the overall ranking. City, University of London (40th) ranks 2nd nationally for Marketing and 1st for Communications & Media Studies, the University of Greenwich (84th) ranks 6th for Forensic Science, and the University of Westminster (111th) ranks 9th for Complementary Medicine and 7th nationally for Land & Property Management.
The University College of Osteopathy, a specialist provider that doesn't make it into the main league tables, came 8th nationally for Complementary Medicine.
High quality education
Having eight of the region’s universities ranking in the UK’s top 50 in this year’s rankings demonstrates how London is on track for another year of high-quality education and training provision for students and employers alike. Imperial College London, University College London and King’s College London all featured in the top 25 nationally within the region.
Professor Amanda Chetwynd, Chair of the Complete University Guide Advisory Board, said:
Congratulations to the London of School of Economics for achieving the top position in this year’s Complete University Guide regional rankings. The tight rankings show just how high the standards are among London’s top universities.
Many prospective students in London are keen to find the best university in the local area. Complete University Guide’s regional league tables are a valuable source of information to give local prospective students a greater understanding of what higher education options there are in the capital.
