How does Clearing work?

UCAS Clearing is a way of matching universities without students to students without a university place.

Clearing can be used by almost any potential student, whether applying late or for strategic reasons – for example, trading up to a university you initially thought you wouldn't get into.

How do you apply for nursing courses through Clearing?

To apply for courses in Clearing you’ll want to speak to the university you’re interested in first, either over the phone or by filling out an application online. Once you’ve been made an informal offer you can add the option in your UCAS Hub if you want to accept it and the university should then confirm your place provided you’ve met the terms of the informal offer.

How do you make your nursing application through Clearing successful?

Watch Clearing interview advice from Janet Migliozzi, nursing admissions tutor at the University of Hertfordshire.

Herts is 2nd in the East of England for Nursing (2023 Complete University Guide)

‘I see Clearing very much as a positive opportunity for you to consider a programme or an institution that perhaps you hadn’t thought about or hadn’t been open to you before.’

Tips for a Nursing course Interview

Tip 1 – Be professional

Even if the interview is online, make sure that you’re in a professional environment and that your appearance is appropriate in the same way that as if you were in the room with your interviewer.

Tip 2 – Listen to the questions

Listen to the questions carefully at interview because that’ll ensure that you answer fully and are able to get your points across.

Tip 3 – Show your enthusiasm

Most importantly, demonstrate your enthusiasm and your keenness to study nursing.
