I had originally applied for the dual adult and mental health undergraduate nursing degree at the University of Leicester.
What degree are you now studying, and at which institution?
BSc Adult Nursing at Birmingham Newman University.
Why did you enter Clearing?
My cohort was the year in which GCSE exams were cancelled due to the Covid pandemic. My lack of experience in completing exams and my poor exam preparation led me to not achieve the grades required for my first choice university.
Hope wasn’t all lost, as I still was able to get into my second choice of university. But this was only on the condition that I added an additional foundation year to my undergraduate degree. Even though it felt like a slim chance, I decided to enter Clearing to see if I could attend the undergraduate degree without taking a foundation year.
What factors made you finally settle on the course you chose?
I wasn't sure if mental health nursing was really for me, and I didn't want to throw myself at the deep end of the nursing course without being fully sure. So, I decided to take the adult nursing course to ease myself into this occupational career to see if it was something I would be willing to pursue.
Did you find accommodation easily through Clearing?
I didn't apply for accommodation and decided to commute to university.
Have you enjoyed your course and time at university so far?
I am extremely grateful and proud that I was able to make that decision. I felt like it was the best decision I could make at the time, and I am glad that I was able to take that leap of faith!
The community and environment are very welcoming and soothing. I get the support I need for assignments as it’s a small community, there’s free on-site parking, a lake nearby, and many areas on campus to relax or study.
