Bethany’s Clearing story
Bethany used Clearing to get a place studying Nursing within Bolton Foundation Trust.
What is your degree, and where are you studying?
I studied BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing at the University of Greater Manchester, graduating with a First Class Honours.
Why did you enter Clearing?
I left my job with the NHS during the Covid-19 pandemic to pursue a nursing degree – a big leap, but the best decision I’ve ever made.
Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?
Balancing studies, placements, and a part-time job wasn’t easy, but with the support of my family, friends and tutors, I made it through. As a student rep, I’m proud of the lasting changes I helped make for future students.
After graduating in January, I started working as a newly qualified nurse at the same GP surgery where my journey began. It’s a full-circle moment that I’ll always cherish.

Deirdre’s story
Dee took the opportunity to study for an MSc in Counselling and Positive Psychology at the University of Greater Manchester.
Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?
Completing my master’s is a milestone I couldn’t have achieved alone. With this foundation, I’m now focused on gaining accreditation and working towards becoming a BACP counsellor to make a meaningful difference.
I’m incredibly thankful to my organisation, Bolton College, for giving me the opportunity to pursue a Master’s in Positive Psychology and Counselling, even adjusting my work schedule to make it possible.
Returning to education after nearly two decades was daunting. Balancing family, work, health struggles, and the loss of my mother during my studies tested me, but the unwavering support of my tutors, family, and friends carried me through.
Akhil’s story
Akhil came from India to study for an MSc in Data Analytics and Technologies.
Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?
Moving from India to the UK for university was a leap out of my comfort zone, teaching me independence and resilience.
Balancing part-time work with studies tested my time management and pushed me through moments of self-doubt, but each challenge helped me to grow.
I’m excited to pursue a career in data analysis, using my experiences to make a meaningful difference in my community.
Sujita’s story
Studying for an MSc in International Management has led Sujita to a new career in a Finance Shared Services team.
Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?
The University of Greater Manchester’s academic reputation, industry ties, and support services helped me adapt, grow, and succeed.
Balancing studies, work, and personal responsibilities wasn’t easy, but the community and support system kept me going.
Shortly after graduation, I secured a role as a Finance Shared Service Assistant—a proud milestone in my journey.
Esha’s story
After gaining an MSc in Biomedical Engineering, Esha plans to continue her studies to pursue a PhD.
What factors made you settle on the course you chose?
Growing up, I admired successful people sharing their journeys and wondered what it would feel like to reach that point. Graduating from the University of Greater Manchester has made that dream a reality.
Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?
Managing studies while battling homesickness was far from easy, but the unwavering support of my teachers and friends helped me to push through and succeed.
With guidance from my tutors, I’m now planning to pursue a PhD at the University of Greater Manchester. I’m filled with hope and excitement for what lies ahead!
Oluwatobi’s story
Tobi gained a distinction in his MSc in Construction Project Management as well as winning awards for roles outside his studies.
Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?
Coming from Nigeria, I was determined to succeed despite challenges. Attending the University of Greater Manchester has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Alongside earning a Distinction in my MSc in Construction Project Management, I served in various leadership roles and was honoured with multiple awards, including Volunteer of the Year and Outstanding Course Rep.
