Clearing success story: Leeds Beckett
Discover Tom's story about his experience of getting a place through Clearing to study Business Management at Leeds Beckett University.
Business Management & Finance
What degree did you originally apply for and where?
I originally applied to do Business Management & Financial Management at Northumbria University, and I also applied for Human Resources at Chester, I think... I know I also applied for applied for Accounting & Finance at Hull.
Why did you enter Clearing?
I didn't originally choose Leeds Beckett as any of my options, but was particularly unsure about all the choices I'd selected through UCAS. I started looking at universities in Leeds and was fascinated by Leeds Beckett’s Management and Specialisation options. I enquired about Clearing and the process was straightforward. It was just like applying for university the same way I did initially.
What factors made you finally settle on the course you chose?
It was definitely the course content that swayed me to Leeds Beckett. The modules were great, and I would also say that the strong hybrid of assessment methods made it more appealing as I hate exams and the course was high in practical assessments. All I had to do was learn to reference!
Did you attend a Clearing open day and, if so, how was it?
I didn't attend a Clearing open day. This was an error on my part, and I do feel like I would have benefitted further from attending. However, I received a significant amount of support from Leeds Beckett. Whenever I called them, whoever answered the phone helped as much as they could and then directed me to the relevant person.
Did you find a place to live easily?
Finding accommodation was fairly easy, maybe not as easy if I'd applied earlier, but as Leeds is a significant student city, there's a wide variety of student accommodation available to different needs and price ranges. I still, to this day, live with my first flatmates and they'll be friends for life!
Have you enjoyed your course and time at uni?
I have loved my time at university. The best part about Leeds Beckett is that you have loads of opportunities to better yourself. The clear passion of my tutors for what they teach is truly what has made my course rewarding, engaging and inspiring.
