Clearing success story: Exeter
Read about Lucy's experience of getting a place through Clearing to study History at the University of Exeter.
Why did you use Clearing?
After I sat my A Levels, I knew that things hadn’t gone quite to plan in one of my subjects and that there was a high probability I wouldn’t make my offers for Medicine.
Why did you choose History at Exeter?
I’d always loved History and kept it as an A Level, even though it didn’t fit in with the sciences that I was studying. When it came to results day, I knew that I would be looking at doing a History degree but didn’t really know too much about where to study.
Phoning into the admissions team I was apprehensive, but everyone was really nice and it was surprisingly easy. I got an email that day with an offer and a phone call from a current student who let me ask questions about the campus and course.
Did you attend a Clearing open day? How was it?
I had the opportunity to visit the campus to make sure it was the right choice for me; it absolutely was. When I first visited Penryn I knew that it was the right place and I would encourage everyone to visit their Clearing offers, if possible, to help them decide. When I visited the campus, I was able to meet a lecturer who talked passionately about the course.
How was your university experience?
I’m now in my third year, just about to graduate, and it feels like everything completely worked out. Even imagining studying somewhere else seems strange as these years have just been amazing. I’ve loved being by the sea, feeling safe and happy in the fun student town of Falmouth where I’ve lived the last two years. My course has been everything I wanted and more; I met so many amazing people and have loved challenging the way I think about problems and solutions.
