Clearing success story: Huddersfield
Read about Mollie's experience of getting a place through Clearing to study Physical Geography at the University of Huddersfield.
What degree did you originally apply for and where?
A Geography & History joint honours degree at the University of Leeds.
Why did you use Clearing?
I entered Clearing because I was one grade off my first-choice university’s required grades, meaning I didn't get in. I no longer wanted to study at my insurance choice because it was a Human Geography course and I’d decided that I wanted to study Physical Geography.
Why did you choose Physical Geography at Huddersfield?
For me, it was about the university, as I was torn between York and Huddersfield. I chose Huddersfield for several reasons: the cost and time of the commute, as well as the campus and the friendly response I got from my current course leader when I called the Clearing hotline. This gave me confidence that I’d be going to a university with a strong support network.
Did you attend a Clearing open day? How was it?
I attended the Clearing Admissions Day at Huddersfield after I'd accepted my offer, as I hadn't previously visited the university. It was a really nice day. I went with my mum and we were given a tour around the Geography department by the head of the course and one of the lecturers, who also gave me a detailed run through of what to expect during my time studying there.
*Please note this year the Clearing Admission Day will be an online event.
Did you find accommodation easily?
I commute to university from home.
How was your university experience?
I've really enjoyed my course. I've found it to be really interesting and I’m glad I chose this subject. At first, I was worried and upset that I hadn't gotten into my first choice university, but I’m still able to do the degree I really wanted to do, so I wish I hadn't been so stressed about a specific university. I am still getting the degree and university experience that I wanted.
