Rachel's story of studying at University of Plymouth

Find out why Rachel chose to study at University of Plymouth

My name is Rachel and I do Occupational Therapy.

So, I applied to the University of Plymouth because I got a really good vibe from the website, the pictures looked amazing, I loved the fact that it was by the sea.

I'm from Portsmouth so you know it was kind of almost like having that home comfort. So, I went to the open day, and I just really loved it, I loved the atmosphere there and I decided to go.

What was the application process like?

So, I applied through Clearing because after my first degree I was applying for a two-year Masters, I didn't quite have the grades to get onto the two-year Masters, but Plymouth uni basically said, “if you apply for the three-year undergrad you're very likely to get a space.” By that time, it wasn't until sort of July/August, so I had to apply through Clearing.

How did you find Clearing?

It was a really simple process; I think because I had already applied before with my previous degree, I kind of knew what I was doing. If I had any questions I emailed admissions and they were really helpful, so yeah that was a really easy, good process.

Have you enjoyed doing your Masters?

I came through Clearing for my second degree which was a great experience it was really easy, really straightforward and I've had another great experience doing my second degree here. I would never have gone anywhere else, with applying through Clearing I think you get to hear about courses and opportunities that you might not have when you had a particular course in mind, and there might actually be something that you prefer that you just hadn't heard of. People can sort of tell you about it and actually say a little bit more about what the course entails, it's a chance to really find the course that's right for you.

What advice would you give students going through Clearing?

Last year I worked at the call centre, it was really nice to be able to talk to prospective students and kind of reassure them, because I’ve have been I that situation, that was really lovely and the people I worked with were amazing, so yeah, a good experience of working there.

When applying for Plymouth I would say don't worry about asking questions, there are so many people there to help you and any worries or concerns you have, there are going to be so many people to listen to you and anything you need to know you can just email or call and someone will be there to chat to you.
