Clearing success story: Reading
Read about Megan's experience of getting a place through Clearing to study Art and English Literature at the University of Reading.
What degree did you originally apply for and where?
English Literature at Surrey and Fine Art at Leeds.
Why did you use Clearing?
I entered Clearing as I did not achieve the required grades needed for my top university choices. I missed by 2 UMS points (so frustrating!).
Why did you choose Arts and English Literature at Reading?
Throughout the university application process I was always undecided between which discipline I wanted to take into further education (either Fine Art or English), but Clearing made this easy for me. Reading was my final call and fortunately offered me a place.
However, I was happy that my course allowed me to keep learning about Literature, Creative Writing and also Art as these are all passions of mine.
Did you attend a university Clearing open day? How was it?
Yes, I went to a Clearing open day. This was really helpful as it gave me an insight into the accommodation I would be living in, the campus and my studio and English Department. Also, it was a really nice welcome into the university and helped me gain lots of helpful advice from students.
Did you find accommodation easily?
Yes I did, I was guaranteed accommodation if I accepted the place within 48 hours and I was given a place just off of campus in Wantage Halls.
How was your university experience?
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Reading and my course. I have made so many great friends through university life and also studying abroad in Denmark, Aarhus. I have especially enjoyed learning a broad spectrum of topics, for example being able to learn new Digital Art skills but also Shakespeare’s plays.
