Clearing success story: York
Read about Katy's experience of getting a place through Clearing to study an Accounting, Business Finance and Management BSc at the University of York.
What degree did you originally apply for and where?
I originally applied for a BA in Business Management at Newcastle University.
Why did you use Clearing?
After a change in personal circumstances, I decided I wanted to be at a university close to home. Also, there are so many societies to get involved with at York, I knew I’d never have a dull moment, which would help me keep my mind off missing home. I loved the idea of the collegiate system at York, and how my accommodation could feel like a family.
Why did you choose Accounting, Business Finance and Management at York?
My favourite subject at A Level was Maths and I wanted to focus more on that in my degree, which my original choice didn't. I chose ABFM instead because it still allowed me to study my original choice of business management, but also allowed me to study accounting and finance, so I got to study more subjects that would give me a broader view of business!
Did you attend a Clearing open day? How was it?
I’d visited York several times on school trips, but before Clearing I’d never visited the department I ended up studying in. I loved everything about the uni, but for me, it was just too close to my home, which is why I didn’t apply in the first place. After things changed and I applied through Clearing, I went to the Clearing open day at the uni, which allowed me to look at the accommodation on offer, then I received my offer the same night!
Did you find accommodation easily?
Finding accommodation was so easy! Once I'd accepted my offer I was able to apply for accommodation, which I did, and I received my accommodation offer three days later. The whole process was really straightforward and simple, which made a stressful time much less so!
How was your university experience?
My time at university is nearly over, and honestly, my four years here has been the best experience. Long story short, going through Clearing turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to me. It’s given the best university experience I could have possibly imagined.
