Tanisha’s Clearing success story

When Tanisha missed out on the grades for her first-choice course, she turned to Clearing to explore her options. It led her to a Cyber Security and Digital Forensics BSc (Hons) degree at Kingston University – a course she now feels was the perfect fit all along.

What degree had you originally applied for, and at which institution?

Computer Systems Engineering BSc (Hons) at Queen Mary University of London.

Why did you enter Clearing?

I didn't get the grades that I had needed for my first-choice offer, so I entered clearing and explored what my next options were.

What factors made you finally settle on the course you chose?

I researched this course online, and I was really interested in the modules and core concepts. I was also fascinated by the facilities that Kingston Uni offered its students compared to other universities, such as the Cyber Lab which is strictly for Cyber students only.

Did you attend a Clearing open day and, if so, how was it?

Yes. The open day was a fantastic experience, and the Student Ambassadors were very helpful and welcoming. I also spoke to the head of Cybersecurity at Kingston, who answered all the questions we had about the course and offered lots of information. I knew I'd made the right choice on my way home.

Did you find accommodation easily through Clearing?

Yes, once I had selected Kingston University as my Clearing choice, I chose a lovely room in halls of residence. Places are on a first come, first served basis and so I did this as soon as I could and was successful.

Have you enjoyed your course and time at university so far?

Yes. I believe that not achieving the grades I originally hoped for and instead studying at Kingston University turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Looking back, I do not think I would have enjoyed my first-choice course, as I mainly chose it because it was offered by a Russell Group university. QMUL also did not offer Cyber Security, which has always been my dream course to study. I also strongly prefer Kingston's charming town-like area compared to QMUL's bustling, central location.
