Frequently asked questions
Imperial is consistently recognised as a top global research university, with a number of outstanding academic departments. The university’s standing as a world leader reflects its dedication to creating an educational and research environment where students and staff can thrive. Imperial students are always in high demand. Many of the world’s top employers know that Imperial's graduates have a reputation for being exceptionally bright, entrepreneurial, and hard-working. Employers also know that Imperial students are exploring key issues of interest to them – from global health to climate change, tech, business leadership, and AI.
Imperial offers a wide range of options for financial support, including scholarships for different subject areas, nationalities, and personal circumstances. The type of funding varies across departments, and unlike loans, students don’t have to pay bursaries and scholarships back. The Imperial Bursary is one of the most generous bursaries of its kind in the UK. It provides Home-fee undergraduates with up to £5,000 per year for every year that their course lasts. You have to apply for a means-tested government loan like a maintenance loan to be considered, but you don’t have to take out the government loan to receive the bursary.
Imperial's home is in London – known as one of the best student cities in the world. London is a place where industry, policy, art, entertainment, and global cultures converge. And Imperial is at its centre – a global hub in a global city. Being a student is a great (and cost-effective) way to explore everything that London has to offer. Your student ID card can get you discounts on everything from clothes and food to cultural experiences. To help you plan for living in London, Imperial also offers lots of helpful resources. These include budgeting, how to access student discounts, and a rough guide to key costs such as accommodation, food, and travel in London.
