Frequently asked questions

Imperial is consistently recognised as a top global research university, with a number of outstanding academic departments. The university’s standing as a world leader reflects its dedication to creating an educational and research environment where students can thrive, including through generous financial support schemes like the Imperial Bursary and Imperial Inspires. Many of the world’s top employers know that Imperial's graduates have a reputation for being exceptionally bright, entrepreneurial and hard-working. Employers also know that Imperial students are exploring key issues of interest to them – from global health to climate change, tech, business leadership and AI.

Imperial offers many options for financial support, including scholarships for different subject areas, nationalities and personal circumstances. The type of funding varies across departments and, unlike loans, students don’t have to pay bursaries and scholarships back. International students can apply for Imperial Inspires scholarships worth up to £15,000 per year, while Home-fee undergraduate students can access the Imperial Bursary. The Imperial Bursary provides up to £5,000 per year for each year that their course lasts. Students have to apply for a means-tested government loan like a maintenance loan to be considered, but don’t have to take out the loan to receive the Imperial Bursary.

Imperial's home is in London – known as one of the best student cities in the world. London is a place where industry, policy, art, entertainment and global cultures converge. And Imperial is at its centre – a global hub in a global city. Being a student is a great (and cost-effective) way to explore everything that London has to offer. An Imperial student ID card can get you discounts on everything from clothes and food to cultural experiences. To help you plan for living in London, Imperial also offers lots of helpful resources. These include budgeting, how to access student discounts and a rough guide to key costs such as accommodation, food and travel in London.
