A Student's Diary – Applying to University

Preparing for Uni

My room is a nightmare. My floor is covered in boxes, my bookshelves are looking bare, and its less than two weeks until I move to York – yay I got into my first choice!

I have bought out The Range and B&M Bargains Kitchen and Bathroom departments, I had a double sided A4 page of things I needed and now I have them packed into boxes. It's all making the move seem more real.

I am excited and scared at the same time but moving to a strange new place is made slightly easier by the fact that I have already met most of the people in my accommodation and on my course over the internet, and I'm already making a lot of new friends despite not having actually met them in real-life yet.

My Grandma didn’t understand how I could have met all these people already given that I haven’t actually left the house…though she still didn’t really understand even after I explained that it was thanks to the miracle of modern technology.

I recently applied for a job, a zero hours contract so that I can work round my studies and earn some extra money. I signed up to the weekly careers email alerts from my university so that I’ll find out about any new opportunities when they come along.

Freshers week has already almost bankrupted me because I’ve bought my tickets in advance, and my Student Loan isn’t due until the Monday after I move in, so fingers crossed that I get the job, and that my parents take me shopping before they leave me stranded

A lot of my friends have already moved to uni and seeing all their freshers pictures makes me even more excited. I honestly cannot wait, even though it means I have to start being responsible for myself.

I wish the best of luck to anyone just starting A-Levels, because honestly that is not something I ever want to have to do again, but trust me it's all worth it in the end.
