The second most prosperous region in the country (after London) offers as you might expect a number of top notch higher education institutions, in fact all of the top 5 universities in the region are also in the nation's top 30. 5. University of Southampton
The University of Southampton has left the UK top 20 for the first time since the online publication of the league tables, dropping 9 places in 2018. However the university does have 9 subjects worthy of a top-10 rank, and the most staff involved in research of the all the region’s universities – even Oxford! – scoring a Research Intensity of 0.9 out of a maximum 1.0
Some great facilities include the fastest super computer in Europe, major historical archives, a wind tunnel complex and a flight simulator – as well as student media with a radio and TV station, a new arts complex, and over 300 student societies. Students also get good careers support with a career mentoring scheme and input from alumni, perhaps the reason for Graduate Prospects climbing steadily since 2014.
